In instances where a president held office without a first spouse, the coin bears "an obverse image emblematic of Liberty as depicted on a circulating coin of that era and a reverse image emblematic of themes of that President's life."

The United States Mint certifies that this coin was struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on December 22, 2005, as Public Law 109-145. This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint. This coin is legal tender of the United States.

The obverse (heads side) design depicts a portrait of Letitia Tyler.

The reverse (tails) design features Letitia Tyler with two of her children on Cedar Grove Plantation.
